On 9th October 2024, the ASEAN i-Teams programme jointly hosted a reflections session in Singapore in collaboration with the ASEAN Committee on Science, Technology & Innovation (COSTI), the ASEAN Secretariat, and the UK Mission to ASEAN. The event brought together representatives from across ASEAN to share insights on developing a culture of technology commercialisation in the region.
Opening remarks were delivered by British High Commissioner to Singapore, Nikesh Mehta OBE, and ASEAN COSTI Chair, Dr Hul Seingheng. Attendees discussed the challenges and opportunities of bringing university research to market, highlighting the successes and lessons learned from pilot i-Teams programmes in Viet Nam and Indonesia. Dr Lara Allen, CEO of the Centre for Global Equality, and Amy Weatherup, i-Teams Programme Director from the University of Cambridge, led the discussions alongside representatives from Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and Bandung Institute of Technology.
Participants also explored how the i-Teams approach could be further adapted to meet the specific needs and priorities of ASEAN Member States in breakout group discussions.
Following the workshop, Dr Lara Allen presented the ASEAN i-Teams programme at the 86th Meeting of COSTI, highlighting the progress made and key learnings gained during the first year of implementation.
