Amulet is an ultra-low-cost wearable electronic health record (EHR) designed to address the challenges surrounding data-driven healthcare delivery in both resource-constrained and disrupted settings, such as conflict zones, humanitarian crises, and among displaced populations. The Amulet device securely stores critical health information in a small-format ‘wearable’, enabling healthcare providers to access and update data using existing, ubiquitous mobile technology.
Unlike typical health record systems, which often rely on considerable network infrastructure or cloud servers, Amulet operates independently of such resources. It eliminates the need for high-bandwidth broadband, specialised hardware, or dedicated smartphone applications, making it uniquely suited for deployment in unstable environments while offering accessibility and interoperability.
Amulet seeks to bridge gaps in the continuity and availability of healthcare data and the ability for record-keeping for populations affected by crises. Amulet seeks to empower patients and healthcare providers with a resilient tool that facilitates rapid and consistent access to critical health information, ultimately supporting improved care in challenging circumstances.
The role for the i-Team would be to assist the inventors in consolidating routes to market, business models, and prospective commercialisation and follow-on funding opportunities, which will assist the team in prospectively founding a start-up. For example, which countries and regions should they focus on first, should they aim to provide the solution direct to individuals, or via hospitals or governments or NGOs? By conducting interviews with a range of relevant experts, the i-Teams recommendations will support the future development of Amulet.
