Project type: Social

Innovators: Professor Brendan Simms & Adam Wurr, Cambridge Centre for Geopolitics, Strategic Simulation Programme & Isabelle Macrae

Upcoming event: Simulated Cabinet Office Briefing Room (COBR) crisis meeting as part of the Cambridge Alumni Festival

For the past decade, the research team have been running effective and highly immersive experiences modelling crisis responses to global geopolitical events (such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine).  These events are attended by government officials, UK politicians, diplomatic and military staff, students and academics.

In these full-day UK-focused events, high-level experts play relevant roles, and participants work together to respond to an imagined but plausible rapidly developing crisis, experiencing the impact of making major decisions under time pressure, and learning from expert briefings and real-life stories.  Generative AI media injects augment the hyper-real nature of the events.  More details can be found here.

The innovators are in the process of setting up a new spin-out company and are therefore investigating other markets and applications for this approach, and where it can have the greatest impact going forward.

The role for the i-Team is to investigate a range of market sectors for this approach, from multi-national companies with strong links to the UK, to international charities and governmental bodies. By analysing other companies which offer similar products and services, and interviewing a range of relevant industry experts, the i-Team will recommend the best route to market and next steps for Strategic SIMs, helping the founders on the next steps of their journey.
