Inventor: Dr. Jenny Molloy, Beneficial Bio
Beneficial Bio is a biotech social enterprise, seeking to ensure that biomanufacturing delivers equitable and sustainable benefits for all people in the global South.
Beneficial Bio does this through building local manufacturing hubs to supply enzymes faster and cheaper; developing and delivering biomanufacturing training; and working with academic partners to build capacity to adopt new technologies.
Previous activities include supporting the establishment of a biotech startup manufacturing research reagents in Cameroon, and a bioinnovation hub for gene editing crops in Kenya.
The focus of this i-Teams project is discovering what local markets and industries in Vietnam could benefit from local manufacturing of enzymes. Where could biomanufacturing accelerate a transition to a more bio-based economy in Vietnam and potentially the broader region? This could include fostering research and innovation activities, as well as directly improving supply chains for different industry sectors that currently, or could in the future, apply green bioprocessing approaches.
