Inventor: Mairead Ryan, School Health Pulse

School Health Pulse is on a mission to transform how schools approach student health and well-being, bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and everyday practice.

Founders of the newly launched venture are tackling the disconnect between academic research, and its practical application within schools. Countless studies about child and adolescent health are published weekly, but findings are often buried in academic journals, difficult to access, and time-consuming for busy teachers and parents to digest.

School Health Pulse sifts through the latest studies, and distils the findings into digestible, actionable insights. Their team of science communication experts and academics transform dense research publications into concise, easy-to-read articles, complete with actionable tips that can be implemented right away.

Supporting schools and health organisations across the UK, School Health Pulse is already making significant strides. They address the most pressing issues facing schools and young people today, delivering insights from research that spans innovative playground designs aimed at encouraging more exercise to the creation of inclusive, autism-friendly environments.

The subscription-based platform offers members access to an ever-growing library of evidence briefs, report-writing tools, and resources to keep the whole school community informed.

As School Health Pulse looks to expand its reach globally, the challenge for i-Teams is to explore how this model can be adapted to support schools and governments in low and middle-income countries. How can academic insights be leveraged to enhance student health and well-being policies and practices on a larger scale? What key adaptations and considerations are necessary for successful expansion beyond the UK?
