“One of the best things I did while being in Cambridge.”
Interested in how new technologies are commercialised? Looking to learn from real entrepreneurs? Want to gain hands-on skills and experience by working in a team with post-graduates from other departments and colleges? Then read on!
Projects for this course:
- An evaluation tool for AI startup ideas, with Dequn Teng & Chen Ye, University of Cambridge & LLM+
- A new high pressure seal for turbines in a range of applications from aviation to hydrogen to small modular reactors, with Dr. Viacheslav Sedunin & Deshraam Ganeshamoorthy, Whittle Laboratory
- Using a wearable device to monitor balance, falls and provide balance rehabilitation therapy, with Professor Manohar Bance & Dr. Iwan Roberts, Clinical Neurosciences
By joining an i-Team, you will work for a term with postgraduates from across the University and a dedicated industry mentor. You will receive weekly training from entrepreneurs and industry experts and investigate the commercial potential and user requirements of a real Cambridge invention. You will gain hands-on skills and experience in a real-world technology consulting-type project.
Applications are welcomed from postgraduates (including 4th and 5th year undergraduates) and researchers from any discipline. No previous commercial background required.
The programme includes weekly lectures from industry experts, team meetings and individual work. i-Teams present their final recommendations to a business and academic audience at the end of the term. The full syllabus is available here.
Past i-Teams estimate that their projects needed about 4 hours a week of individual effort in addition to the weekly sessions. As part of the projects, team members will need to contact external industry experts by phone and email – some calls and meetings may need to take place during office hours.
Development i-Teams will also run in Easter term, on Thursday evenings from May 7th to June 18th – you are welcome to apply for this course as well, but will only be offered a place on one course.
We are also running our Development i-Teams programme in Easter term (Thursday evenings from May 7th, final presentations on Thursday June 18th) – details here.
